What is the STREPCO Course?

The goal of the course is to build a bridge between the theoretical knowledge you already acquired and applying it in a practical situation when sitting opposite a client. Thereafter we help you to register with the Council For Counsellors in SA (CCSA/ASCHP), thereafter you can start your own practise. Workshop will be presented in Randburg, Johannesburg. (This course can also be attended via Zoom from where you are.)

We assume that our students do have certain theoretical knowledge, because we don't teach theory, we teach how to apply theory. So this is a practical course, with the focus on HOW.

Many people get their degree in Psychology, but can go nowhere from there, seeing that you have to have a Masters Degree to start your career.

That's where we come in.

  • We offer you a practical counselling course, building a bridge between the academic knowledge you already acquired and applying it in a practical situation with clients.
  • We will also enable you to register with the CCSA/ASCHP. We even offer you support when you start your own practice.

Testimonials

“The Strepco course is excellent. It challenges one’s belief structures as well as beliefs on how therapy should be conducted. It would have been nice if it had been a week longer as the practical aspects were fascinating, but there was not enough time to each try out a whole therapy session on one’s own in relation to examples, using different therapies. The course was intense and packed with information that was both practical as well as informative and the experience level of the presenters provided opportunities to question standard ideas and approaches with the possibility of considering issues of clients from different perspectives and how to apply different therapeutic approaches. Most people who attended in my group found that the ability to question, to gain answers from people with experience and to be challenged on their views was invaluable.”  Cheryl Johnston

“The STREPCO Counselling Course was the key I needed to unlock the door to my calling; it was the start button of my career in psychological counselling.  It gave me the confidence to start and run my own practice with techniques that actually work!”  Natashia Nortje

“I completed that STREPCO Counselling course in 2015. I found the course filled with several helpful skills. However, several topics of the course falls outside scope of practice (projective testing, therapeutic techniques).”  Jana Joubert

“I had an overall great and insightful experience with the strepco course. I however would have liked more assistance with the ccsa info and registration process. Most topics were really in depth, making it helpful. The strepco book is a must have for re-capping afterwards. Everyone should be advised to buy it... It would be nice if there could be one or two additional topics on getting the practice started...with basic indemnity forms, etc. I have enquired for one from Lorette and received it, thank you for that. However, it will be good for those who have not thought about it as yet. I know that Adri has a course on starting up a practice, but strepco could just have a brief basic intro to it- towards the end of the training.”  Naasira Lambat

“The course was very well structured and made sense of psychological themes and ideas and practically based. What made it even more beneficial is the healing and self-understanding it provides for all students due to the nature of its design.”  Natacha Gaud

“The course was informative and married theoretical and practical aspects of psychology and counselling. Further, the course provided for practical application of theory in a safe and secure environment which nurtures learning. The course leader, in her role as supervisor, was able to draw on practical work which allowed us to focus on the theoretical foundations that underpin psychological counselling. The supervisor further guided us through the learning experience whilst highlighting our authenticity and the essence of empathy. The learning process engages the learner in psychological counselling whilst highlighting the importance of blind spots, ethical considerations and focuses on the importance of embracing the client through counselling.”  Doreen Seff-Bin-Mubarak

“Even after doing my honours degree in Psychology, I haven’t felt as equipped as I did after completing the Strepco counselling course.”  Shireen Lamprecht

On our facebook page “STREPCO Approach To Therapy” we also have more info on the different boards and how students can work in practice.

The Universities look for experience when they do selections for Masters Degree. Therefore, if you can gain experience this way, while also having an income, your chances of being selected for a Masters Degree are increased.

Many of our old students now have their own practises, and many have been selected for a Masters Degree.

If you studied psychology and are held back by the system, find a way to follow your dream and live your passion to help people, and we want to help you in this quest
